Camshaft Housing Installation

The camshaft housing is designed to be fitted to either cylinder block. Press fit cover plate accordingly.
1. Clean sealing surfaces of cylinder heads.
2. Ensure cylinder head studs in cylinder head are firmly seated.
3. Apply very thin coat of suitable sealant on mating surface of camshaft housing.
4. Install oil return tubes into crankcase.
5. Place camshaft housing on cylinder head and oil return tubes. Cylinder heads may have to be moved slightly to align with camshaft housing.
6. Place nuts and spring washers on camshaft housing securing studs and loosely tighten.
7. Evenly torque cylinder head nuts to 24 ft. lbs.
8. Install camshaft in camshaft housing.
9. Torque camshaft housing nuts progressively across cylinder heads to 18 ft. lbs. When tightening camshaft housing, check camshaft for binding in its bearings. If camshaft binds, loosen camshaft housing and retighten in a different order until stresses are relieved and camshaft turns freely.
10. Install chain guides in crankcase, inserting retaining stud bolts and chain guides at same time.
11. Check for proper positioning of chain guide in groove of stud bolt and torque to 18 ft. lbs. Chain guides are installed with longer portion of guide pointing toward nearest gear. Lower right chain guide is brown plastic and remaining five chain guides are black plastic.
12. Install chain housing gaskets on crankcase.
13. Install chain housings and torque housing retaining nuts to 18 ft. lbs.
14. Install remaining chain guides on their respective supports.
