Split Timing Chain Installation

Split timing chains can be replaced without removing and disassembling engine. When replacing both chains, they must be replaced one after the other as chains run in opposite directions.
1. Remove spark plugs, then turn crankshaft to mark Z1 of cylinder No. 1.
2. Remove chain tensioner, sprocket wheel with support, and camshaft gear.
3. Grind open both pins of one link of old chain, protecting engine from grinding dust.
4. Attach new chain with chain lock to end of old chain.
5. Using suitable tool, move camshaft approximately 45° outward.
6. Slowly turn crankshaft in direction of normal engine rotation while keeping chain tensioned.
7. Turn engine until connecting link can be inserted at other end of new chain.
8. Remove old chain and close new chain with connecting link. Insert connecting link from front with shims, then install spring lock with closed end pointing in direction of rotation.
9. Install camshaft gear, sprocket wheel and chain tensioner.
10. Check valve timing and adjust as necessary.
