Variable Induction System: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The intake system is divided by two resonance flaps to optimize the oscillation in the intake manifold (resonance charging) over a large speed range.

OPERATION
Resonance flaps are activated by DME control unit via a solenoid. The flaps are opened with help of a diaphragm valve after reaching an engine speed or 5500 rpm. The solenoid is connected with a vacuum supply tank. To avoid seizure of flaps due to deposits in the intake, the solenoid is activated briefly each time the ignition is turned ON. This causes the flaps to travel through their full range.
