Repairing Wire Harness No. 173 (DME)
NOTE: As of model year 1996. knock sensors, speed senders and temperature sensors with optimized plug connections will be installed. In this case, the connector housing of older wire harnesses must be modified.1. Cut wires right next to the old connector housing.
2. Push new sheaths onto each individual wire and insulate wires on a length of approx. 5 mm.
3. Use a crimping tool to crimp the connector contact and the sheath.
4. As for the terminal assignment in the connector housing, the wiring diagram and the following table must be observed.
Knock sensors 1 and 2
terminal 1 - WS (white)
terminal 2 - BR (brown)
terminal 3 - Sheath
Speed sender
terminal 1 - WS (white)
terminal 2 - BR (brown)
terminal 3 - Sheath
Engine temperature sensor (NTC II)
terminal 1 - SW/RT (black/red)
terminal 2 - Dummy plug
terminal 3 - BR (brown)
5. Terminal 2 on the temperature sensor is not used and has to be fitted with a dummy plug.
NOTE: These optimized parts can also be installed in the 911 Carrera (964) as of model year 1989. The old connector housings of the DME wire harness must be replaced.
