120 Vehicle Speed - Not in Specified Range

Function
The system adaptation and the diagnosis for fuel tank ventilation is performed when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling. The diagnosis for misfire detection is blocked at very high vehicle speed changes. To recognize the vehicle speed, the speed signal from the ABS control module is used.

Diagnosis conditions
- Inertia fuel shutoff condition
- Engine temperature > 64 °C
- Engine speed between 1480 rpm and 2520 rpm

NOTE: The signal from the rear left wheel speed sensor is used.

Diagnosis Procedure










1 Read ABS control module fault memory.
1. Connect and switch on Porsche System Tester 2.
2. Select vehicle type 911 Carrera (996).
3. Select system ABS 5.3 or ABS/TC 5.3.
4. Read out the fault memory.

2 Check wheel speed sensor with ohmmeter.
1. Remove connector X 2/4.
2. Connect ohmmeter on pin side to pins 16 and 17.

Display: 1.6 - 1.8 k ohms

3 Check speed signal with Porsche System Tester 2.
1. Connect and switch on Porsche System Tester 2.
2. Select vehicle type 911 Carrera (996) and system ABS 5.3, menu Actual values, Rear left wheel speed sensor.
3. Raise vehicle at rear left.
4. By hand, turn rear left wheel in driving direction. The speed must be displayed on the tester.

4 Perform adaptation.
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Wait one minute. Do not press the accelerator.
3. Switch off the ignition for at least 10 seconds.
4. Read out the fault memory.
