73, Gear monitoring - 3rd gear
The transmission input speed result is monitored = (output speed x transmission ratio)
Diagnosis conditions
- ATF level OK
- ATF temperature 40° C to 95° C
- Selector lever position 'D' or 'M', 3rd gear
- Gear engagement completed
- Engine speed > 1400 rpm
- Transmission input speed > 64 rpm
- Transmission output speed > 64 rpm
Possible fault cause
- ATF level too low or too high
- Sensor for transmission input speed (turbine sensor) and sensor for transmission output speed (output drive sensor) electrically swapped
- Coupling or brake is faulty
- Hydraulic control unit is faulty
- Tiptronic control module is faulty
Affected pins
Pin 42 and pin 14 or pin 44 and pin 16
Diagnosis/troubleshooting
WARNING:
- Danger of scalding by hot ATF.
- Hot ATF can cause burns if it comes into contact with the skin or clothing.
- Drain ATF only when cold.
- Wear suitable protective clothing.
