Oxygen Sensor Heater Faults: Update of the DME Fault Software (ME 7.2)
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera / 911 Carrera 4 (996)
Model Year:
MY2000 (Y)
Concerns:
"Check Engine" MIL-On and Checking of Data status DME
Information:
This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on certain 2000 model year 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera 4 vehicles. Porsche AG has initiated this Service Action pertaining to a potential Fault Storing condition with the current DME Data Set. The fault code entry relates to a defect in the Oxygen Sensor heating even though there may not be a fault present in the oxygen sensor heating. The fault code entry will cause the "Check Engine" warning light to illuminate.
To correct this condition and prevent future MIL occurrence, and the unnecessary replacement of an otherwise flawless oxygen sensor, a new DME program mapping must be completed with the PST2. An installed CD-ROM version 12.0 or higher in the PST2 will be required to complete this task.
Note:
In order to facilitate a quick turn around, the DME programming code is included with the VIN number shown in "Attachment A". It is not necessary to fax in a request for the code to the Technical Hot Line.
Affected Vehicles:
A total of 7,542 U.S. and 459 Canadian vehicles (MY 2000 only) fall within the scope of this Service Action.
Very Important!
Not every vehicle in the shown range may be affected. Use the ranges as a general guideline. Refer to Attachment "A" to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this service action. Alternatively, the VIN can be checked in the Porsche E-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open service action (or recall campaign).
The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained as shown in the VIN-Ranges.
Work Procedure: See Attachment "B".
Parts Required: None
