Clicking Noise In Steering

Concern:
Clicking noise when wheels are steered.

Information:
Clicking noises can occur in the area of the upper spring strut mount when the wheels are steered with the vehicle stationary, e.g. when parking. A new axial grooved ball bearing has been installed in production on March 14, 2000 starting with VINs 99 4YS 62 2227 and 99 9YS 65 3272.

In case of complaints on earlier vehicles, a new style bearing and back-up ring must be installed.

! CAUTION
Using the old style back-up ring, part number, 996 343 517 01 EMO in conjunction with new style axial grooved bearing, part number, 996 343 515 05 will damage the spring strut mount. Caution!
