Passenger's seat belt tensioner
Diagnostic conditions
- Ignition on
Possible cause of fault
- Incorrect coding
- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the passenger's seat belt tensioner and the airbag triggering unit
- Passenger's seat belt tensioner faulty
- Triggering unit for airbag faulty
NOTE:
- The contacts in the connector of the seat belt tensioner are very sensitive.
- When connecting the test tool No, 9516/4, ensure that both special tool contacts are inserted parallel and simultaneously.
- After insertion the plug must be locked to make the electrical connection.
Affected terminals
Terminals 3 and 4 in left-hand drive vehicles
Terminals 1 and 2 in right-hand drive vehicles

Test tool No. 9516/4 in the place of the seat belt tensioner
NOTE: If the fault memory is cleared, the ignition must be switched off, the ignition key removed and the ignition switched on again in order to check the fault path. Only in this way is another self-test carried out.
