Central Locking/Radio Remote Control Does Not Function - Alarm System Control Unit: Incorrect Coding

Date: 5-23-03

Vehicle Type:
Boxster/Boxster S

Model Year:
'03 (3)

Equipment:

Immobilizer/Central Locking - 315 MHz (M 525, for countries USA & CAN)

Concerns:
Vehicles MY '03 without alarm system.

Complaint:

- Central locking system and radio remote control do not function.

- Immobilizer cannot be deactivated.

Spare parts requirement, alarm system control unit:

- Immobilizer/central locking system in alarm system control unit are incorrectly coded with the Porsche System Tester 2 (PST2) and software 16.0.

Information:

As of MY '03 (3) the alarm system control unit is also installed in vehicles without an alarm system. After the vehicle is delivered from the factory, the coding in the alarm system control unit should be modified with the PST2 using software 16.2 (or higher), because software 16.0 (or lower) does not correspond to the current version for MY '03 vehicles without an alarm system.

Reason:
After changing and saving using software 16.0 (or lower), control unit is set to "vehicle with alarm system".

Result:
If the alarm system is triggered at a later point in time, or if the function "audible checkback (horn)" is activated by an opened contact, e.g. by an open oddments tray between the front seats, the 15A flat connector fuse in the alarm system control units melts. The result is that the central locking system and the radio remote control do not function; the immobilizer cannot be deactivated.

Work Procedure:

The coding in the alarm system control unit can only be modified in MY '03 vehicles using PST2 software 16.2 (or higher). Software version 16.2 will be delivered to the dealer organization approximately by the end of April '03.

For coding the control unit, see below.

Flat connector fuse: If necessary, replace the 15 A flat connector fuse on the control unit.

Coding the control unit: Modify the coding in the alarm system control unit using the PST2 and software 16.2 (or higher) as follows:

1. Select vehicle type Boxster --> carry out an automatic control unit search

--> Select DME control unit 4 select vehicle data

--> Select M numbers using the [v] and [A] keys and check if the 525 has been entered.

2. If YES, return to the control unit selection and continue with step 4, If NO, continue with step 3.

3. If NO, add the No. 524 or 525 (according to the country equipment).

Procedure: In the "M numbers" entry, press the [>>] key --> press [F5] key
--> Using the keys [v], [shift 6 key], [<] and [>] enter the digits 525 (for USA & Canadian vehicles)
--> Press [>>] key --> save with [F8] key
--> Return to control unit selection/vehicle type
--> Select Boxster --> carry out automatic control unit search
--> Continue with step 4.

4. Select alarm system control unit --> Coding 4-->Country coding Select country (e.g., D, USA, ...) --> save with [F8] key.
