PCM2 With Bose Sound System: Sporadic Sound Failure

Information
Sound failure occurs sporadically (no sound playback of PCM2 during radio or navigation operation) on vehicles from MY '03 and MY '04 with the equipment mentioned above, which were manufactured up to the introduction date mentioned below.
In the event of a complaint, the software of the BOSE amplifier must be updated using the CD "BOSE Update-CD 2003-2; 911 & Boxster", part number, 000 043 205 50.
After the update, the software matches the version in vehicles from MY '04 (as of the date of introduction) and thus BOSE amplifier, part number, 996 645 333 05.
Introduction:
Introduce the new BOSE amplifier software on August 25, 2003 as of VINs:

98 X3U 62 3752 USA
Software version:
1. The current version of the BOSE amplifier software can be displayed in the PCM2 display as follows:
After switching the PCM2 on, press and hold the SET button (Figure 1, Item 19), then press the "FM-AM"- (Figure 1, Item 1) and the AUDIO' button (Figure 1, Item 10) at the same time. The Service menu is shown in the display. Select the "SW versions" function by turning the right rotary knob (Figure 1, Item 17) and confirm by pressing the right rotary knob (Figure 1, Item 17).
Depending on the software, the following version is shown in the display under "amplifier":
"00011927" (or lower):
The software matches the amplifier software version for vehicles from MY '03 or MY '04 up to the introduction date.
=> Perform an update as is described in Item 2.
"00011929":
The software matches the amplifier software version for vehicles from MY '04 as of the introduction date.
=> An update is not necessary.
Press the Back button (Fig. 1, Item 18) to change to the PCM2 menu.

Work Procedure:
2. Updating the Bose amplifier:
2.1 Switch off the ignition.
2.2 Connect charger to the electrical system battery.
2.3 Switch on the PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (Fig. 1, Item 8).
2.4 Activate the Eject button (Fig. 1, Item 23) and remove CD if present from the CD slot (Fig. 1, Item 24).
3. Transferring the new software version of the BOSE amplifier software:
3.1 Insert the update CD with the marking BOSE update CD 2003-2, 911 & Boxster, part number, 000 043 205 50, in the CD slot of the PCM2 (Fig. 1, Item 24). The software update starts automatically.
3.2 PCM2 display "Update software to version 1.19.29".
Select field "Yes" by turning the right rotary knob (Fig. 1, Item 17) and confirm by pressing the right rotary knob (Fig. 1, Item 17).
3.3 PCM2 display during the update:
"Update the amplifier. Device 1 of 2."
"Update the amplifier. Device 2 of 2."
For each update step there is a bar shown that displays the loading progress.
Note:
If the display "Update failed" or If a loading progress bar is not shown:
Remove update CD from the CD slot (Fig. 1, Item 24) by pressing the Eject button (Fig. 1, Item 23). Insert the update CD into the CD slot again. The software update is started again (step 3).
3.4 When the update is finished, "Update successful" is displayed in the PCM2 display.
Note:
The message about a successful update is brief, afterwards the PCM2 switches off automatically.
If the PCM2 does not switch off automatically, switch off the PCM2 manually by pressing the On/Off switch (Fig. 1, Item 8).
3.5 Switch on the PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (Fig. 1, Item 8).
3.6 Remove update CD from the CD slot (Fig. 1, Item 24) by pressing the Eject button (Fig. 1, Item 23).
4. Concluding work:
4.1 If present, insert the removed CD into the CD slot again (Fig. 1, Item 24).
4.2 Switch off the PCM2 by pressing the On/Off switch (Fig. 1, Item 8).
4.4 Disconnect the charger.
