Work Procedure

1. Preparatory work.

1.1 Remove battery (Technical Manual, Group 9).

1.2 Remove the cover of the radiator tank and cowl panel (Technical Manual, Group 7, Part ID 7022).

1.3 Remove display and operator control unit (PCM2) (Technical Manual, Group 9, Part ID 9110).

1.4 Remove right front seat (Technical Manual, Group 7, Part ID 7201).

1.5 Remove glove compartment (Technical Manual, Group 6, Part ID 6815).

1.6 Remove right inner door entry trim (Technical Manual, Group 6, Part ID 6805).

1.7 Remove air duct for left and right footwell.

1.8 Loosen carpeted floor in the area of the A-pillar.

1.9 Remove holder left floor (in area of A-pillar) (Technical Manual, Group 7, Part ID 7041).

1.10 Remove right center console trim, right center tunnel trim, and right and left carpet lining (Technical Manual, Group 6, Part ID 6817).

1.11 Undo right wiring duct.

2. Install telephone antenna.





2.1 Insert sheet metal nuts (A) in cover for cowl panel.

2.2 Clip in the telephone antenna in cowl panel cover (arrows) and fasten with screws (B).

2.3 Connect antenna lead with extension lead (C).

2.4 Bundle antenna lead in wiring arrangement.

2.5 Install cowl panel cover.





2.6 Connect sheet metal nuts (A) for antenna holder to firewall.

2.7 Insert antenna holder (B) and fasten with screws (C).

3. Route antenna lead in the passenger compartment.





3.1 Remove service grommet (A) from the firewall.

3.2 Remove insulating material from service grommet and put a hole into the service grommet.

3.3 Slide service grommet over antenna lead.
Note:
Observe direction of installation for service grommet.





3.4 Route and secure antenna lead from the service grommet in the firewall, along the dashboard over the right A-pillar, and through the wiring duct to the right seat baseframe.

3.5 Install service grommet.
Note:
Do not install the service grommet on vehicles with connector, because OWG must still be routed through the service grommet.

3.6 Seal the hole on the service grommet (Figure 005, Item B) with adhesive compound.

3.7 Install cover of the radiator tank.





4. Install optical wave guide.
Note:
Observer instructions for working with optical wave guide (Technical Manual, Group 9, Part ID 9768)!

4.2 Routing optical wave guide for vehicles without connector.

4.2.1 Route retrofit kit optical wave guide from the right seat baseframe through the wiring duct, over the A-pillar, along the dashboard to the PCM2 installation slot and secure.

4.3 Only for vehicles with OWG connector.

4.4 Preparatory work.

4.4.1 Remove spare wheel and cover for the brake booster.

4.4.2 Unlock plug connection for optical wave guide connector on connector side (Technical Manual, Group 9, Part ID 9768).





4.4.3 Press-out plastic pin (A) and remove holder (B) with socket (C) from radiator tank.





4.4.4 Cut open approximately 5 cm of protective tube of the optical wave guide set (by radiator tank), in area (X).

4.4.5 Cut through the original optical wave guide set and pull forward out of the scoring pipe with socket and holder (Figure 9).





4.5 Route retrofit kit optical wave guide.

4.5.1 Route retrofit kit optical wave guide from the right seat baseframe through the wiring duct, over the A-pillar, along the dashboard to the PCM installation slot, and further through the service grommet to the radiator tank.





4.5.2 Guide retrofit kit optical wave guide (A) through scoring pipe.

4.5.3 Complete optical wave guide connector in the front luggage compartment and install (Technical Manual, Group 9, Part ID 9768).

4.5.4 Wrap insulating tape around scoring pipe (in area B).

4.5.5 Secure retrofit kit optical wave guide along the routing path.





4.6 Install service grommet (A).

4.7 Seal the hole on the service grommet (B) with adhesive compound.

4.8 Install covers of the radiator tank.

4.9 Install battery, cover for brake booster and spare wheel.





5. Lay electrical wiring harness of telephone module.

5.1 Preparatory measures.

5.1.1 Remove lower trim of left A-pillar, relay carrier, and fuse carrier.

5.1.2 Bundle the WH/RD, RD/GN and 0GW leads of the electrical wiring harness for the telephone module with insulating tape.

Note:
Bind WH/RD 0.35 sq. lead (wake-up diagnosis) only up to the PCM2 installation slot.

5.2 Route electrical wiring harness for telephone module from the right seat baseframe through the wiring duct, over the A-pillar, along the dashboard to the PCM and fuse carrier and secure.

5.3 Crimp the two BN 0.35 sq. electrical wiring harness leads for the telephone module with cable ring eyelet (Parts list Item R).

5.4 Fasten cable ring eyelets of the ground wires to "6" ground point under seat baseframe.

5.5 Loop and secure leads.

6. Install telephone module.





6.1 Slide telephone module (A) into holder and tighten screws (B).





6.2 Insert plug (A), antenna plug (B) and optical wave guide plug (C) into the telephone module.

6.3 Align holder with telephone module to the floor pan assembly, and tighten with screws (D).
Note:
Pay allention to lead routing.





7. Connect the electrical leads.

7.1 Prepare fuse carrier.

7.1.1 Unlock locking lugs (A) on both sides and remove rear fuse carrier cover.

7.1.2 Unlock locking lugs (B) on both sides and remove fuse block "E" from fuse carrier.

7.1.3 Pull locking pin (C) from fuse block "E".

7.2 Establish power supply "E6/Term. 30".

7.2.1 Remove fuse "E6" from fuse carrier.





7.2.2 Press out pin of RD/GN 2.5 sq. wire with 88040 and disconnect (A).
Note:
If other optional equipment has been installed, several leads can be connected there.

7.2.3 Bundle the RD/GN 0.52 leads from the retrofit kit with the RD/GN 2.5 sq. lead (vehicle-side) and crimp with the new PIN (Parts list Item P) (B).

7.2.4 Insert pin in the fuse carrier.
Note:
Ensure pin is seated securely.

7.2.5 Insert fuse "E6" in slot.

7.3 Establish power supply "E1/Term. 86s".

7.3.1 Remove fuse "E1" from fuse carrier.

7.3.2 Press out pin of OG 0.35 sq. lead with 88040 and disconnect.

7.3.3 Bundle OG 0.35 sq. lead from retrofit kit with OG 0.5 sq. lead (vehicle-side) and crimp with new PIN (see Parts list Item Q).

7.3.4 Push pin in fuse carrier.
Note:
Ensure pin is seated securely.

7.3.5 Insert fuse "El" in slot.

7.4 Complete the fuse carrier.

7.4.1 Push locking pin in fuse block "E".

7.4.2 Push fuse block "E" in fuse carrier.

7.4.3 Clip in rear fuse carrier cover.
Note:
Ensure correct seating of the locks.

7.5 Route electrical wiring harness for telephone module in the area of the fuse carrier and affix.

7.6 Connect pin C4 (wake up diagnosis) to 6-pin yellow plug C1 (PCM2).





7.6.1 Press out pin of WH/RD 0.352 lead from 6-pin yellow C1 plug with 93005 (A) and disconnect.

7.6.2 Bundle WH/RD 0.35 sq. wire from retrofit kit and WH/RD 0.35 sq. wire (vehicle-side) and crimp with a new pin.

7.6.3 Insert pin into the 6-pin yellow plug housing (chamber 4).
Note:
Ensure pin is seated securely.

8. Install microphone. Only necessary on vehicles where no microphone has been installed.

8.1 Remove instrument cluster and instrument cluster cover (Technical Manual, Group 9, Part ID 9025).

8.2 Convert microphone cover.
Note:
Depends on interior equipment.





8.2.1 Remove retaining clip (A) of the microphone cover.

8.2.2 Pull microphone out of cover.

8.2.3 Insert microphone in cover and secure with retaining clip.

8.3 Guide microphone electrical wiring harness through the opening in the instrument cluster cover.





8.4 Position the instrument cluster cover and tighten with screws (A).

8.5 Route microphone electrical wiring harness on the rear of the instrument cluster. To do this, clip into the holders (B).





8.6 Route electrical wiring harness for microphone from instrument cluster through the dashboard to the PCM2 installation slot and secure.

8.7 Crimp the cable ring eyelet (Parts list Item R) to the BN 0.5 sq. shielding lead of electrical wiring harness for the microphone.

8.8 Install cable ring eyelet to ground point "4" (Figure 022, Item A) of instrument panel bracket.

8.9 Only for vehicles with BOSE sound package.

8.9.1 Press out pins of RD 0.35 sq. and BN 0.35 sq. leads from socket of vehicle-side microphone wiring harness.





8.9.2 Push in pins of RD 0.35 sq. and BN 0.35 sq. leads into socket of microphone electrical wiring harness (retrofit kit) (see table).

8.10 Join microphone and microphone electrical wiring harness (retrofit kit).

8.11 Install instrument cluster.

9. Complete the vehicle.

9.1 Install fuse carrier, relay carrier, and lower trim of left A-pillar.

9.2 Install air duct for right and left footwell.

9.3 Install center console trims.

9.4 Install glove compartment.

9.5 Secure right wiring duct.

9.6 Install holder left floor (in area of A-pillar).

9.7 Secure carpeted floor in the area of the A-pillar.

9.8 Install right inner door entry trim.

10. Program telephone with PST2.

10.1 Read out PCM2 fault memory and erase.

10.2 Match the MOST required installed components list to the actual installed components list.

10.3 Code telephone module.

10.4 Check MOST components.

10.5 After programming is complete, read out the fault memory of all systems, correct any existing faults, and erase the fault memory.

11. Carry out function test.
