Door Speaker Mount Modified
Vehicle Type:
Boxster (986)/ Boxster S (986)
Model Year:
2002 (2) - 2005 (5)
Equipment:
Harman Sound System (I No.490) or BOSE Sound System (I No.680)
Concerns:
Door speaker mounting has been modified to prevent rattling noise from the area around the door speaker.
Information:
On vehicles equipped with a Harman or BOSE sound system, rattling noises around the door speaker can occur while the radio or CD is on. The reason for this is a loose threaded fit for the door speaker fastener.
As of the middle of November, 2004, modified speed nuts have been installed to mount the door speaker. In the event of a customer complaint, the affected loudspeaker needs to be mounted with the modified speed nuts, see POSES, Workshop Manual, Group 7, 70 59 19 - Removing and installing door trim panel.
Note:
The part number for the speed nut has not changed and therefore there is a chance that some "previous" inventory may be in the "distribution pipeline". To distinguish between them (modified/previous speed nut): The fastening bore is narrowed on one side on the modified speed nut (Figure 1, Item A: arrow). The previous speed nut has a round fastening bore (Item B).
