Work Procedure

1. Preparatory work.

1.1 Remove battery. -> Workshop Manual '270619 Removing and installing battery'

1.2 Remove luggage compartment cover. -> Workshop Manual '703019 Removing and installing luggage compartment cover'

1.3 Remove covers at the left and right close to the cowl panel. -> Workshop Manual '852219 Removing and installing cover section on "Removing".

1.4 Remove cowl panel cover. -> Workshop Manual '508719 Removing and installing cowl panel cover.

1.5 Only for vehicles with a telephone:

Remove radio antenna (telephone) from cowl panel cover. -> Workshop Manual '914779 Removing and installing radio antenna'





1.6 Only for 911 Carrera 4 with amplifier:

Remove screw -> Figure 3 -A- and nut -> Figure 3 -B- and pull combination holder for amplifier/navigation unit out of the body and lay it to one side.

ATTENTION
Risk of damage to components!

^ Risk of damage to dryer (fluid tank) due to drilling work on the grommet.

-> Protect dryer (fluid tank) using a wooden support.

-> Use a bit stop while drilling.

2. Install GPS antenna. -> Workshop Manual '911319 Removing and installing GPS antenna.

2.1 Insert speed nut (999.507.441.02) in cowl panel cover.

2.2 Position GPS antenna and secure with a tapping screw (999.073.210.00).

3. Only for vehicles with a telephone:

Fit radio antenna (telephone) on cowl panel cover. -> Workshop Manual '914719 Removing and installing radio antenna section on "Installing".

4. Prepare trim panel for luggage compartment pan.

4.1 Loosen trim panel for luggage compartment pan.





4.2 Only for 911 Carrera 4:

Transfer dimensions for the position of the mounting for the navigation unit retaining frame to the trim panel for the luggage compartment pan.

Dimensions:

V = 135 mm

X = 145 mm

Y= 190 mm

Z = 205 mm

4.3 Cut out section in luggage compartment pan for navigation unit retaining frame in accordance with dimensions.

4.4 Check cutout in the trim panel for the luggage compartment pan for mounting the navigation unit retaining frame and rework it if necessary.

5. Route GPS antenna cable.

5.1 Open the locking mechanism for the plug socket and remove plug socket from the GPS antenna cable.

5.2 Only for vehicles with carbon canister:

Loosen carbon canister. -> Workshop Manual '202519 Removing and installing carbon canister'

5.3 Only for 911 Carrera 2:

5.3.1 Loosen trim panel for luggage compartment pan away from the front panel.





5.3.2 Punch rubber grommet. -> Figure 7 -A- from the front panel.

5.3.3 Route and secure GPS antenna line -> Figure 7 -H- as follows:

Navigation unit installation position -> through rubber grommet -> along wire harness -> right plenum panel.

5.4 Only for 911 Carrera 4:





5.4.1 Remove small rubber grommet from front panel -> Figure B -A-, punch it and guide GPS antenna cable through.

5.4.2 Route and secure GPS antenna cable as follows:

Navigation unit installation position -> through rubber grommet -> along wire harness -> right plenum panel.

5.5 Only for vehicles with carbon canister:





5.5. Punch grommet -> FIGURE 10 -A- from the front panel.

5.5.2 Route and secure GPS antenna cable as follows:

Navigation unit installation position -> along wire harness -> through rubber grommet -> right plenum panel.

5.6 Fit plug socket to GPS antenna cable and close locking mechanism.

ATTENTION
The optical waveguide can become damaged due to incorrect installation or if the requirements for handling optical waveguides are not followed.

6. Route optical waveguide.

6.1 Only for vehicles with Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) control unit:

Unscrew fastening nuts on TPM control unit and lay control unit aside. -> Workshop Manual '443419 Removing and installing Tire Pressure Monitoring contra/unit'

6.2 Remove Connection point holder.





6.2.1 Only for vehicles with optical waveguide components (CD changer and/or amplifier) in front luggage compartment:

Disconnect optical waveguide connection point -> Figure 11 -B-

6.2.2 Remove connection point holder -> Figure 11 -A- from plenum panel using pointed-nose pliers.

6.3 Only for vehicles without optical waveguide components in the front luggage compartment:





Pull protection cap -> Figure 12 -A- off the optical waveguide.

Note:
Given the vehicle variants and the wide range of equipment options using optical waveguide components, only two possible methods of routing the optical waveguide are described here.

6.4 Only for 911 Carrera 2:





Route optical waveguide from optical waveguide connection point -> Figure 13 -A- along the front panel to the navigation unit installation position -> Figure 13 -B- and possibly to the amplifier -> Figure 13 -C- or CD changer and secure at this position.

6.5 Secure connection point holder to the front panel and join optical waveguide connection point.

6.6 Only for vehicles with optical waveguide component:

Secure the standard optical waveguide as a permanent fixture. This remains functionless in the vehicle.

6.7 Only for vehicles with Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) control unit:

Insert TPM control unit and tighten fastening nuts. -> Workshop Manual '443419 Removing and installing Tire Pressure Monitoring control unit'

Warning:
Risk of short circuit and fire due to work on vehicle electrical system.

-> When working on the electrical system, the battery must always be disconnected and covered.

-> Always route the electrical leads without tension and so that no chafing occurs. Secure to existing harnesses/components with tie-wraps/electrical tape.

7. Connect electric wires.

7.1 Preparatory work.

7.1.1 Only for vehicles with built-in CD changer:

Remove CD changer. -> Workshop Manual '976019 Removing and installing CD changer section on "Removing".

7.1.2 Expose wire harness for CD changer by loosening the required area of the luggage compartment pan trim panel.

7.2 Cut electric wires to size in accordance with the component arrangement.

7.3 Connect RD/GN 1.0 sq. wire (terminal 30) from retrofit kit to RD/GN 0.5 sq. wire (terminal 30) for CD changer.

7.3.1 Cut RD/GN 0.5 sq. wire approx. 10 cm behind the connector for the CD changer wire.

7.3.2 Strip both ends of RD/GN 0.5 sq. wire from the CD changer and end of RD/GN 1.0 sq. wire from the retrofit kit.

7.3.3 Slide shrink-fit hose over RD/GN 0.5 sq. wire from the CD changer.

7.3.4 Crimp both RD/GN 0.5 sq. wires and RD/GN 1.0 sq. wire together as a splice using a cable connection.





7.3.5 Slide shrink-fit hose over the cable connection and shrink the hose with a hot-air gun. -> Figure 15 -A-.

7.4 Connect WH/RD 0.35 sq. wire (Wake Up) to WH/RD 0.35 sq. wire (Wake Up) from CD changer as described in Step 7.3.

7.5 Connect BN 0.5 sq. wire (terminal 31) to BN 0.5 sq. wire (terminal 31) from CD changer as described in Step 7.3.

7.6 Wrap electrical tape around wire harness.

8. Secure navigation unit, see also -> Workshop Manual '911219 Removing and installing navigation unit section on "Installing".

Note
The navigation unit is located next to or on the CD changer, depending on the equipment I No.

8.1 Only for 911 Carrera 2:





8.1.1 Fit retaining clips (997.645.342.01) on the retaining frame. -> Figure 16 and slide navigation unit into the retaining frame until the navigation unit engages securely.

8.1.2 Push in electric plug connections until connectors are felt to engage.

8.1.3 Position the navigation unit with retaining frame on the body and push into the four holders. Check that the unit is seated securely by pulling up on the retaining frame.

8.2 Only for 911 Carrera 4, without amplifier:





8.2.1 Fit speed nut (999.507.766.02) -> Figure 17 -A-.





8.2.2 Press in combination holder for amplifier/navigation unit (997.645.351.00) with the two fastening parts -> Figure -18- Arrows- on the body and tighten screw (900.078.179.09) -> Figure 18 -A- and nut (900.377.018.09) -> Figure 18 -B-.





8.2.3 Slide navigation unit into combination holder for amplifier/navigation unit -> Figure 19 -Arrows- until the navigation unit clicks into place.

8.2.4 Push in electric plug connections -> Figure 19 -A- until connectors are felt to engage.

8.3 Only for 911 Carrera 4:





8.3.1 Slide four retaining clips (997.642.342.01) -> Figure 20 -2- onto the retaining frame for the navigation unit -> Figure 20 -1-.

8.3.2 Position retaining frame for the navigation unit on the body, push it into the four holders. -> Figure 20 -Arrow- and check that it is seated securely by pulling up on the retaining frame.





8.3.3 Insert navigation unit into the retaining frame and press in connectors until they are felt to engage. -> Figure 21 - 3, 4, and 5-

8.3.4 Slide the navigation unit further into the retaining frame until the navigation unit clicks into place.





8.4 Slide navigation unit cover f (997.551.106.00). -> Figure 24 -A- or (B is not applicable for the North American market). -> Figure 24 -B- over the navigation unit and engage it securely.

9. Complete the vehicle.

9.1 Seal rubber sleeves/grommets with adhesive compound.

9.2 Only for vehicles with carbon canister:

Secure carbon canister. -> Workshop Manual '202519 Removing and installing carbon canister - section on "installing".

9.3 Only for 911 Carrera 2:

Guide electric wire, optical waveguide, and antenna line through trim panel for luggage compartment pan and secure trim panel for luggage compartment pan at the front panel.

9.4 Secure trim panel for luggage compartment pan.

9.5 Only for 911 Carrera 4:

Install CD changer. -> Workshop Manual '916019 Removing and installing CD changer - section on "Installing".

9.6 Install luggage compartment cover. -> Workshop Manual '703019 Removing and installing luggage compartment cover - section on "installing".

9.7 Install cowl panel cover. -> Workshop Manual '508719 Removing and installing cowl panel cover section on "installing".

9.8 Install covers at the left and right close to the cowl panel. -> Workshop Manual '852219 Removing and installing cover - section on "installing".

9.9 Install battery. -> Workshop Manual '270619 Removing and installing battery-section on "installing".

10. Connect battery charger.

Warning:
Sudden voltage interruption of the power supply to the control module.

^ Destruction of the control module.

-> During programming, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the PIWIS Tester. It is essential to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.

-> Prior to disconnecting the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Note
The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718.

11. Code DVD navigation module using PIWIS Tester P9718.

11.1 PIWIS Tester P9718 must then be connected and ignition switched on.

11.2 Select vehicle, "Instrument cluster" control unit and "Coding" function selection. Press .F12" to continue.

11.3 In the Instrument cluster coding menu, select "Model year". Press F12 to continue.

11.4 In the Instrument cluster coding menu, select "Vehicle variants". Press F12 to continue.

11.5 In the Instrument cluster coding menu, select "Navigation" and press F12 to change the coding.

11.6 Select Gateway control unit and "Coding" function selection. Press F12 to continue.

11.7 In the Gateway coding menu, select "Required installed components lists" and press F8 to change the navigation coding to Installed.

11.8 Select PCM 2.1 control unit and "PCM2.1 MMI" function selection.

11.9 In the PCM2.1 MMI function selection menu, select "Planned & Actual configuration" and check that navigation is configured.

11.10 In the PCM2.1 MMI Planned & Actual configuration menu, press F8 to accept the mapping.

11.11 Select Navigation control unit and "Coding" function selection.

11.12 In the Navigation coding menu, select "Standard K-number" and press F8 to apply the default coding.

11.13 In the Navigation coding menu, select "Real K-number" and press F12 to apply the default coding.

11.14 Select "Special functions" in the control units group. Press F12 to continue.

11.15 Select "Erase all fault memories" in the Special functions menu. Press F12 to continue. Fault memories are erased.

11.16 Switch ignition off and disconnect PIWIS Tester P9718.

12. Disconnect battery charger, clip in battery cover and close lid.

13. Perform function test during test drive.
