Eliminating symptoms - Engine: Checking engine-oil level ("blue smoke" from engine)

General information

Symptom
"Blue smoke" from engine.

Causes and remedial action
Cause

Engine-oil level too high.

Remedial action

Check the engine-oil level and if the engine oil is over the Maximum marking:
^ Adjust the engine-oil level to the Maximum marking and
^ Clean the inside of the intake manifold.

Clean cloth,
clean container for engine oil

Checking engine-oil level
1. Check the engine-oil level.

Incorrect oil level
^ Risk of damage to engine or catalytic converter

- Check the oil level regularly.
- The oil level must not fall below the Minimum marking or rise above the Maximum marking.
- Only use approved engine oils.

Information
If the complaint "blue smoke from engine" is received and the engine-oil level is over the Maximum marking, the engine must not be replaced:
Work through the following points before further work is performed.

2. Drain the engine oil and collect it in a clean container.
3. Reduce the amount of drained engine oil by half a liter and fill the rest back in.
4. Check the engine-oil level again:
- If the engine oil goes up to the Maximum marking, continue with Step 5.
- If the engine oil is still over the Maximum marking, repeat Steps 2 to 4 again.
5. Remove the resonance tube.
6. The entire inside of the intake manifold must now be cleaned with a clean cloth.
7. Install the resonance tube.

End of remedial action.
