Wear on timing chains, chain sprockets, slide and guide rails
Wear on timing chains, chain sprockets, slide and guide railsNote;
- When removing, cleanliness is absolutely essential!
- Only lay removed engine parts on a clean base and cover them.
- Before installing, apply new engine oil to new parts.
1. No measurable wear values (such as chain elongation) are specified for the chain drive. Before removing, the engine should therefore be checked for noise from around the chain drive during operation.
If there is noise from around the chain drive, it is recommended that the individual components be replaced!
2. While disassembling, the individual parts (chain sprockets, timing chains, slide and glide rails) are to be checked carefully for traces of wear, e.g. erosion on the chain sprockets, abrasion marks on the slide and glide rails.
Note;
- If in doubt, the components are to be replaced!
Visible signs of wear are admissible, but in the case of wear that can actually be felt, the affected components must always be replaced!
