Exhaust System
Exhaust System
The Boxster (987) and the Boxster S (987) both feature a totally new exhaust system. Heat resistant damping elements between the exhaust system and the engine system serve to damp all drive related vibration (e.g. idling, component, engine vibrations) and provide for a particularly smooth running engine, which is conducive to comfort. Also, exhaust system vibrations caused by driving on "washboard" road surfaces (due to reduced torsional rigidity) are reduced by the Stop Shock elements used to suspended the exhaust system in the area of the mufflers. Through the use of thin wall technology for the pipes and catalytic converters (wall thickness of 1.2 mm instead of 1.5 mm) and for the mufflers (double wall technology with 2 x 0.5 mm instead of 2 x 0.75 mm), the weight of the new exhaust gas systems has been reduced by approx. 9.1 lbs (4.15 kg). The exhaust gas system possesses larger cross-sections and a resultant lower level of exhaust back pressure, which has a positive effect on power output.
