Removing and installing cover for final drive








Preliminary work

Danger:
Vehicle raised incorrectly.
^ Danger of fatal injury or material damage should the vehicle fall down.


- Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Remove underbody panelling.
3. Remove the cardan shaft.
4. Remove front final drive.
5. Drain oil for front final drive.

1. Remove halfshaft flange.

Lever off halfshaft flange with a mounting lever and pull it out.

2. Remove cover for final drive.
2.1. Unscrew screws -2- between cover for final drive -1- and final drive.

2.2. Loosen cover for final drive -1- by tapping it with a rubber hammer if necessary, and remove it.

Installing cover for final drive

1. Sealing ring must always be replaced.
1.1. Fit sealing ring on cover without twisting it.
1.2. Coat sealing ring with Vaseline.
2. Install cover for final drive.
2.1. Fit cover for final drive on the transmission and position it using a centering pin P 9321.
2.2. Screw in screws between the cover and transmission.

- Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)

3. Install halfshaft flange.





Replacing circlip

3.1. Replace circlip -A- for the halfshaft flange. To do this, clamp the flange in the vice with a hexagon-head bolt -B- and press the circlip out with the new circlip -A-.
3.2. Grease circlip -A- for easier fitting.
3.3. Tap halfshaft flange -arrow- into the transmission using a rubber hammer.

Subsequent work

1. Install front final drive.
2. Fill in oil for front final drive.
3. Install the cardan shaft.
4. Install underbody panelling.
5. Lower the vehicle.
