Front Suspension

Removing and installing front stabilizer

Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove front wheels.
3. Remove front cover (underbody protection).

Removing and installing front stabilizer

Removing front stabilizer

1. Loosen the two connecting links (suspension/stabilizers) at the anti-roll bar.
2. To remove and install the anti-roll bar, lower the front-axle cross member slightly at the front (approx. 50 to 60 mm/similar procedure as for removing and installing steering gear).

Support the front-axle cross member with a hydraulic lift while lowering it (use a hard rubber base or wooden block: -see illustration-).

Supporting cross member

3. Detach the anti-roll bar (on both sides) -arrows-.

Turn the anti-roll bar as required and remove it sideways (to the left or right).

Front anti-roll-bar mount

Installing front stabilizer

1. Install front stabilizer.

Replace all lock nuts. Observe correct tightening torques.

1.1. Insert the anti-roll bar into the vehicle (guide in sideways) and position it.
1.2. Secure the anti-roll bar (on both sides) -arrows-.

Front anti-roll-bar mount

2. Position and secure the front-axle cross member.
3. Secure the two suspension/stabilizers (connecting links) at the anti-roll bar. Always tighten the connecting links (suspension/stabilizers) in three steps!
3.1. Fit new M10 collar nuts on the connecting link joint (at the left and right). Counter when tightening. Observe three-step tightening procedure.

Step 1: - Initial tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.)

Step 2: - Loosen by 1/4 turn after initial tightening: Loosen by 90 degrees

Step 3: Tighten to 65 Nm (48 ftlb.) - Final tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Mount front wheels.
2. Fit front cover (underbody protection).
3. Adjust the toe. Calibrate the steering-angle sensor if necessary.
