Adjusting rear lid in X and Z direction
INFORMATION:
- Set gap dimensions on cover and accessories in accordance with the gap specifications.
- Given a clearance in the opening that is too large or too small, the movable body or the accessories must be centred accordingly.
- Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points.
- The given values are guidelines which should be observed as far as possible.
- The guidelines apply to repair and assembly work.
- Use star gauges to measure the gap dimensions. Star gauges for body gap dimensions NR.127-1
1. Check functional dimensions of rear lid. Refer to Diagram - body gap dimensions.
2. Loosen fastening screws -1- slightly on both sides of the rear lid -2-.
Adjusting rear lid in Y direction
1. Loosen fastening screws -1- slightly on both rear lid hinges -2-.
Adjusting the rear lid
1. By moving the rear lid at the lid hinges, adjust the contours with respect to the side panel, roof, rear spoiler and rear apron. Refer to Diagram - body gap dimensions.
2. Tighten fastening screws securing lid hinge to rear lid. Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
3. Tighten fastening screws securing lid hinge to body. Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
INFORMATION:
- The side adjusting elements of the rear lid must be adjusted so that there is a slight preload when the rear lid is closed completely.
- The preload must be equal on the left and right.
4. Screw out adjusting element until the spoiler cross member is touching.
5. Screw out adjusting elements by max. half a turn and check gap dimensions of rear lid with respect to the rear spoiler. The tip of the lid must not project out. Refer to Diagram - body gap dimensions.
The setting can be changed by screwing in the adjusting elements.
INFORMATION: It should still be possible to pull the paper strip out when the rear lid is closed. If the paper strip either pulls out too easily or cannot be pulled out, the preload at the adjusting elements must be changed.
6. Check the decoupling action between the rear lid and the rear lid seal all around using a strip of paper.
7. Adjust lower part of rear lid lock if necessary.
7.1. Remove cover for rear lock support. Refer to Removing and installing cover for rear lock support.
7.2. Loosen fastening screws -1- on lower part of rear lid lock -2-.
7.3. Adjust lower part of rear lid lock -2- until there is a slight preload with respect to the upper part of the rear lid lock and the rear lid.
The preload on the rear lid can be increased by moving the lower part of the lid lock down. Moving the lower part of the lid lock up reduces the preload.
7.4. Tighten fastening screws -1-. Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
7.5. Install cover for rear lock support. Refer to Removing and installing cover for rear lock support.
7.6. Once you have moved the lower part of the lid lock, adjust the rear lid as described in Step 4.
INFORMATION: To check this, test-drive the vehicle on an uneven stretch of road (bad road surface) during approval.
