The exact requirements to enter closed fuel control after engine start for the non continuous lambda sensor (HEGO) are:
- forced closed loop control if the ECT sensor is not working in accordance with the time requirements listed in paragraph 1968.2 (e) (10.2.2) (B) (ii) a and calculated temperature of temperature model above applicable value.
- lambda-probe operability (no actual errors stored for oxygen sensor) for continuous lambda control:

The following parameters / enable conditions are necessary to maintain closed loop fuel control:
- Oxygen probe operability (no actual errors stored for oxygen sensor)
- load is inside of two characteristic lines (min/ max)
- deceleration fuel cut off
- no error detected for:
a. injection valve power stage
b. misfire
c. secondary air system power stage
