Fuel and Ignition System

Injection Valve EV-14

To support the reduction of emissions and compliance with emission classification requirements, EV-14 injection valves are employed.

Features of the injection valve:
- Slender valve shape (flexible installation and optimal adaptation to engine requirements)
- Excellent variant diversity (geometry, jet shape of modified injection angles)
- Injection point 5 mm further forward
- Improved fuel/air mixture for reduction of emissions (fine nebulization)
- Low weight (approx. 25 grams)

Design Of The EV-14 Injection Valve

Compared to the EV-6 injection valve known from the 911 Carrera (996) as of model year 2002 and the Boxster (986), the outer diameter of the EV-14 valve has been reduced, the solenoid coil and the valve grouping redesigned and the injection point has been moved 5 mm further forward. The EV-14's valve housing in the fuel delivery area is made of stainless steel. This comprises the coil, the electric and the hydraulic connection. Located in the valve housing are the filter strainer, the movable injection needle with the armature and the valve seat with the perforated spraying disc. The EV-14's perforated spraying disc determines the jet shape, the fuel proportioning and the mixture formation in other words, optimal nebulization of the fuel in the intake manifold. Two O-rings seal off the injection valve from the fuel distributor and the intake manifold.

TECHNICAL MANUAL: The scope of work, such as checking fuel pressure and fuel pump delivery rate, together with any special tools that are required, is described in the Technical Manual. To check the fuel pump's delivery volume, the special tool 9705 (pressure regulator 36 psi/2.5 bar) is used. A steady-state pressure of > 29 psi/2 bar should still apply one hour after switching tank off the engine.

The following components and functions correspond to those on the Boxster (987) and are described in the Service Information Technik for the Boxster (987), Group 2:
- USA fuel tank
- Returnless Fuel system (RF)
- Fuel filter
- Fuel-pressure regulator
- Tank ventilation
- Construction and operating principle of the tank-leakage diagnostics module (DM-TL)
