Creaking/crackling noises can come from around the instrument cluster caused by tolerances between the trim and instrument cluster.
During vehicle production, strips of tricot tape have been attached at three positions on the trim in order to eliminate noises since mid-January 2010 (-arrows-). If the trim has to be replaced, the strips of tricot tape (--> Figure 2) are not attached to the supplied trim.

Action Required/1:
If a replacement trim is required and/or if a replacement instrument cluster is required:
Before installing the trim or before installing the instrument cluster, attach the strips of tricot tape to the trim (--> Figure 2).

Parts Info:
999.551.196.40 --> Tricot tape, 1 m (enough for around 13 vehicles)
Tools:
Scissors, ruler.
Work Procedure:
1 Cut off three strips of tricot tape, 999.551.196.40, each measuring approx. 25 mm in length.
2 Pull off protective film on tricot tape (self-adhesive).
3 Attach and press the strips of tricot tape on the trim as shown in Figure 2.
4 Install instrument cluster, 902519 Removing and installing instrument cluster

Includes Cutting and attaching strips of tricot tape.
