Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle -> 40 Lifting the vehicle - section on "Preliminary work".
2. Remove the wheel -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel Removal and Replacement.

Removing front brake caliper

Removing front brake caliper (V6, V8, Turbo)





Information

- To gain better access for removal of the brake caliper, turn the steering fully either to the right or left.

1. Push brake pads back slightly and evenly with piston resetting fixture (replaces P83) Nr.144 , refer to Tools and Equipment -direction arrow-.





2. Release and unclip the connector on the wear indicator -arrow-. Loosen the brake line on the brake caliper -arrow- and collect brake fluid in a suitable container. Close off the line with suitable stoppers.





Information

- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake caliper on the wheel carrier.

3. Remove brake caliper from wheel carrier -arrows-.

Removing front 19-inch brake caliper (Turbo Kit, Turbo S)





19-inch brake caliper (with adapter)

Information

- To gain better access for removal of the brake caliper, it helps to turn the steering fully either to the right or left.

- Do not detach the brake caliper from the adapter. Note brake caliper fastening points. (In figure: Side view (19 inch).

1. Push brake pads back slightly and evenly with piston resetting fixture (replaces P83) Nr.144 , refer to Tools and Equipment -direction arrow-.

2. Release and unclip the connector on the wear indicator -arrow-. Detach the brake line from the brake caliper -arrow- and collect the escaping brake fluid in a suitable container. Close off the line with suitable stoppers.

Information

- Do not detach the brake caliper from the adapter.

- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake caliper on the wheel carrier.

3. Remove brake caliper with adapter from wheel carrier -arrow-.

Removing 18-inch plus brake caliper (Turbo as of model year 2008)

Information

- To gain better access for removal of the brake caliper, turn the steering fully either to the right or left.

1. Carefully press the brake pads back using water pump pliers.
2. Press the brake hose out of the fastening clamps on the wheel carrier and loosen it from the brake caliper. Collect the brake fluid in a suitable container. Close off the line with suitable stoppers.
3. Unclip the brake pad wear indicator wire.

Information

- Do not detach the brake caliper from the adapter.

- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake caliper on the wheel carrier.

4. Remove brake caliper. -arrows-

Installing front brake caliper

Information

- Replace screws and lock nuts.

- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake caliper on the wheel carrier.

- Observe correct tightening torques -> 40 Tightening torques for front axle - section on "Technical values".

The brake caliper is installed in reverse order.
1. Fit the brake caliper.
2. Fit the brake line to the brake caliper.
3. Clip in the wear indicator connector.
4. Position disc brake pads by operating the brake several times.

Subsequent work

1. Bleed the brake system -> 470107 Bleeding the brake system - section on "Bleeding" Service and Repair.
2. Mount the wheel -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel Removal and Replacement.
