Removing cutoff relay

Removing pyrotechnical cutoff relay

CAUTION

Danger of injury and material damage due to incorrect handling of cut-off relay.

-> Remove ignition key.
-> Disconnect battery.
-> Route or isolate ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, seat frame) is avoided. -> 90 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
-> After the battery is disconnected, always wait one minute before disconnecting the cut-off relay connector.





Overview of cutoff relay

1. Move front left seat back and up as far as possible. Move backrest fully forward.
2. Disengage front trim panel at the rear -arrow A- , then unclip it by pulling it forward -arrow B-.

3. Unclip the right and left carpet cover -arrows-.

4. Unscrew the two fastening screws -1-.

5. Fold the seat back as far as possible -arrow A-. With the seat in its folded position, move the seat forward again using the fore/aft adjustment -arrow B-.
6. Fold carpeted floor forwards -arrow A-. Unscrew fastening nut -1- from the battery ground strap on the body and remove the ground strap from the stud -arrow B-.

7. Route or isolate ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, seat frame) is avoided.

- Only for vehicles with auxiliary battery

8. Release the cover -arrows A- and open it -arrow B-.

9. Screw off the fastening nut -arrow 3- and remove the line for the additional battery -arrow C-.
10. Unclip the cover from the power distributor using a screwdriver -arrow a-.

11. Carefully prise out the locking mechanism on the electric connector -1- with a screwdriver -arrow a- and pull the connector out of the cutoff relay -2-.

12. Screw off the two fastening nuts -3- on the cutoff relay -2- and remove the cutoff relay.

Information

- Use new nuts.

1. Position the cutoff relay -2- in the power distributor. Screw on the two fastening nuts -3- on the cutoff relay. => Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)

2. Connect electric connector -1- to cutoff relay and lock it -arrow a-.
3. Slide cover of power distributor from front to back -arrow A- and press it on -arrow B- until the latch locks into place.

Information

- Only for vehicles with auxiliary battery

4. Attach the line for the additional battery to the threaded bolt -arrow A- and secure with the fastening nut -3-. => Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)

5. Close the cover -arrow B- until the locking lugs -arrows C- engage securely.
1. Fold carpeted floor forward -arrow A- , place battery ground strap on the body -arrow B- and secure with the fastening nut -1-.=> Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)

2. Move the seat in its folded position towards the rear -arrow A- and then tip it forward -arrow B-.

3. Tighten fastening screws -1-. => Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)
4. Clip in the right and left carpet cover -arrows- until they engage securely.

5. Clip in the front seat trim at the front seat frame and at the side trim panel -arrow A-.

6. Press the front seat trim down -arrow B- until the locking lugs engage securely on the seat frame.
