Preliminary work for ELV control unit
1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values and codings must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the "old" ELV control unit. -> 480855 Replacing ELV control unit 480855 Replacing ELV control unit.
2. Remove steering column. -> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Removing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column.

NOTICE
Voltage peaks
- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit
-> Remove the ignition key and switch off load before disconnecting or removing load.
Installation position
1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-.
Removing control unit
2. Lift the ELV control unit and pull it out of the steering column.
Installing ELV control unit
1. Place ELV control unit in steering column.
Installing ELV control unit
2. Secure ELV control unit with the fastening screw -1-. => Tightening torque: 3.6 Nm (2.5 ftlb.)+/-0.5 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.)
Subsequent work

2. If the control unit was replaced, the control unit must be adapted to the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818. -> 480855 Replacing ELV control unit 480855 Replacing ELV control unit.
