Removing and installing oil/water heat exchanger





Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove front underbody panelling.
3. Drain engine oil.
4. Remove front-axle support.

Removing oil/water heat exchanger

Information
The oil/water heat exchanger is fitted at the front of the oil guide housing.

5 - Oil duct adapter (cannot be replaced)
6 - Heat exchanger seal
7 - Oil/water heat exchanger
8 - Screw, M6 x 20; self-tapping screws ex-works; metric screws can also be used

1. Vehicles with PDCC: Disconnect expansion hose -1- at the front of the auxiliary frame.





Disconnecting expansion hose

1.1. Open the clamps -2-.
1.2. Remove expansion hose and let it hang down.
2. Place a drip pan under the oil/coolant heat exchanger. (Coolant and oil will run out during disassembly.)
3. Disconnect coolant hoses.





Removing coolant hoses

3.1. Loosen the clips -1- on the coolant hoses at the oil/coolant heat exchanger and slide them onto the hoses -A-.
3.2. Clamp the hoses using hose clamp 3093 or hose clamp 3094.
3.3. Clip the coolant hose assembly -3- on the oil/coolant heat exchanger from the holder -2- ( -B- ).
3.4. Pull off the hoses -C-.
4. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.

5. Tilt the oil/coolant heat exchanger up in direction of travel -A-.
6. Remove the oil/coolant heat exchanger.

Installing oil/water heat exchanger

Information
The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally. Tightening torques and assembly instructions for other affected assemblies (e.g. chassis, electrics, transmission or body) or for peripheral engine equipment can be found in the corresponding documents.

- The oil/coolant heat exchanger is installed in reverse order to removal.
- Always replace the O-rings -6- between the oil/coolant heat exchanger and the oil guide housing.
- Always use the correct tightening torques.

Subsequent work

1. Secure PDCC expansion hose.
2. Install front-axle support.

3. Install front underbody panelling.
4. Fill in engine oil.
5. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary.
