Eliminating Symptoms on Chassis: Programming Leveling System (PASM) Control Unit
Eliminating symptoms on chassis: Programming leveling system (PASM) control unit (I-no. 350/351) (Vehicle remains in "High Level"/SY1409)
General information
Symptom
Levelling system remains in "High Level" on vehicles with I-no. 350/351:
The vehicle is in "High Level" and
- PASM/Lift button is pressed manually or
- the level is switched automatically at speeds of more than 30 km/hour (19 mph).
-> The message "Switching from High Level" starts to flash on the instrument cluster and does not go off and
-> the vehicle remains in "High Level".
-> The error message "Vehicle is extremely high" can also appear on the instrument cluster.
Cause, date of introduction and remedial action
Cause
A software error can prevent the leveling system from switching from "High Level".
Date of introduction
12 October 2009 as of vehicle identification numbers:
RoW:
97 ZAL 042767 Panamera S
97 ZAL 081443 Panamera Turbo
USA:
97 0AL 061391 Panamera S
A7 4AL 090546 Panamera Turbo
Remedial action
Re-program the leveling system control unit using PIWIS Tester II with test software version 2.200 (or higher) installed.
Tools and materials
PIWIS Tester II 9818 with test software version 2.200 (or higher) installed.
Battery charger (current rating of at least 40 A)
Programming leveling system (PASM) control unit
NOTICE
Programming interrupted
* Malfunctions in control unit
* Risk of damage to control unit
-> Before starting work, connect a suitable battery charger with a current rating of at least -> Nominal value: 40 A to the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment.
-> For vehicles with Porsche Entry & Drive, remove the control panel from the ignition lock and instead of the control panel insert the original vehicle key into the ignition lock. Keep the control panel in a safe place.
-> Switch on the ignition using the original vehicle key for the duration of the work, otherwise the ignition will be switched off automatically after 10 minutes and control unit programming will be interrupted.
Information
The procedure described here is based on the PIWIS Tester II test software version 3.010.
The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed.
A discrepancy may arise with later software versions for example.
Information
If programming/coding is interrupted (e.g. due to a voltage drop or if communication is aborted, etc.) or if programming/coding could not be carried out successfully (error message "Programming/coding unsuccessful"), programming/coding must be repeated.
1. Connect PIWIS Tester II with installed test software version 2.200 (or higher) to the vehicle and switch it on.
2. Disconnect electric plug connection ( -item 1- ) for the fan blower ( -arrow- ) to prevent the fan from coming on during control unit programming.
Figure 1
Operation of the fan and the increased current draw as a result of this can cause a voltage drop, which can cause control unit programming to be aborted.
3. Switch on the ignition using the original vehicle key.
4. Call up the -> 'Diagnostics' menu and select vehicle type -> 'Panamera'. The diagnostic application starts.
5. To program the leveling system (PASM) control unit:
5.1. Press F7 in the -> 'Overview' menu to call up the -> 'Extra menu'.
5.2. Select -> 'Campaign' and confirm your selection by pressing F12.
5.3. Click in the -> 'Campaign number' input field and enter the following characters using the keyboard:
SY1409
Press Enter on the keyboard to confirm your entry.
-> The input field turns blue.
5.4. Press F12 to continue.
5.5. Press F8 to start programming.
The message "Performing programming..." appears at the top of the display.
Programming is carried out automatically by PIWIS Tester II for approx. 40 minutes and must not be interrupted.
When programming is complete, the message "Programming has been completed successfully" appears at the top of the display.
The progress bar at the bottom of the display shows 100%.
5.6. To finish programming:
Press F12 to continue.
5.7. Press F11 to return to the -> 'Overview' menu.
6. To code the leveling system (PASM) control unit:
6.1. Switch to the -> 'Overview' menu, select the control unit "leveling system/PASM" and confirm your selection by pressing F12.
6.2. Switch to the -> 'Coding/adaptations' menu, select the coding mode -> "Automatic coding with coding rules" and confirm your selection by pressing F12.
Coding is performed...
The message "Coding has been completed successfully" appears at the top of the display.
6.3. Press F12 to continue.
7. Plug in electric plug connection for the fan blower.
8. Read and erase all fault memories.
8.1. Switch to the -> 'Overview' menu and press F7 to call up the Extra functions.
8.2. Select the function -> 'Read all fault memories and erase if required' and confirm your selection by pressing F12.
The fault memories of the various control units are read out.
8.3. As soon as you have read out the fault memories, erase them by pressing F8.
8.4. Press F12 ("Yes") in response to the question as to whether you really want to delete all fault memory entries.
The faults stored in the fault memories of the various control units are deleted.
-> If control units are found to have faults, which cannot be erased and are not caused by control unit programming, these faults must be located and corrected.
8.5. Once you have erased the fault memories, select the -> 'Overview' menu to return to the Control unit selection screen.
9. Switch off ignition.
10. Switch off the PIWIS Tester and disconnect it from the vehicle.
11. Switch off the battery charger and disconnect it from the vehicle.
12. On vehicles with Porsche "Entry & Drive", replace the original vehicle key in the ignition lock with the control panel again.
