Safety instructions for passenger airbag
WARNING
Incorrect handling of airbag units
- Triggering of airbag unit
- System faults can occur
-> Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
-> A voltage supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.
-> Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
-> Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
-> Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
-> Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
-> Replace damaged parts during removal.
-> Always position the airbag unit in such a way that the airbag opening is facing upwards.
-> If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be stored in a safe place.
-> Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
-> Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.
-> Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
-> Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
-> Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.
WARNING
Incorrect handling of safety bolts

-> Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.
-> Observe specified tightening torques.
-> Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.
Removing dashboard
Installation position of dashboard
1. Move the seats all the way back.

3. Vehicles with Kessy antenna: Remove support for Kessy antenna and release and unplug the electric plug connection. -> 966719 Removing and installing antenna for Kessy - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
4. Unplug electric plug connection -1- for the temperature sensor.

5. Release and unplug electric plug connections for the passenger airbag unit.

6. Cut the tie-wraps on the line for the passenger airbag unit.
7. Cut the tie-wraps on the two wire harnesses going to the centre console at the dashboard.
8. Unclip the line brackets at the ventilation grilles.

9. Pull the wire harnesses and the sleeves inwards through the dashboard.

10. Pull the electric line for the loudspeakers at the left and right out of the dashboard.

11. Unclip the line bracket -3- for the electric line from the dashboard at the left and right A-pillar.

12. Unscrew the three fastening screws -4- at the sides.

13. Unscrew the hexagon socket screw -5-.

14. Unscrew the fastening screws for the dashboard.

15. Carefully pull the dashboard inwards out of the holders and remove it.
Installing dashboard
1. Carefully guide the dashboard into place and position it.
2. Slide the dashboard into the retaining clips. Ensure that no wires are clamped while inserting it.
3. Pull the electric lines and rubber sleeves outwards through the dashboard.

4. Secure the rubber sleeves on the dashboard.
5. Clip in the line brackets at the ventilation grilles.

6. Clip the line bracket -3- for the electric line into the dashboard at the left and right A-pillar.

7. Pull the electric line for the loudspeakers at the left and right into the dashboard.

8. Screw in fastening screws for the dashboard.=> Tightening torque: 3.2 Nm (2 ftlb.)

9. Screw in the three fastening screws -4- at the left and right side.
=> Tightening torque: 3.2 Nm (2 ftlb.)

10. Screw in the hexagon socket screw -5- at the sides of the dashboard.

11. Replace and tighten the tie-wraps on the line for the passenger airbag unit.
12. Replace the tie-wraps on the two wire harnesses going to the centre console, join them at the dashboard and tighten them.
13. Plug in electric plug connections for the passenger airbag unit.

14. Plug in electric plug connection -1- for the temperature sensor.

17. Move the front seats into position.
