P18110

Diagnostic information - Tiptronic

P0720 Output shaft speed inductive sensor

NOTE: The ignition must be switched off and then switched on again in order to display a fault message in the instrument cluster.

Diagnostic conditions
The control unit must be active in order to test internal function sequences and diagnosable inputs/outputs.
In the event of a fault, check whether the fault is permanently >present<. To perform the check, erase the fault memory, meet the diagnostic conditions and read out the fault memory again.
- Voltage> 10.2 V and < 15.5 V
- Ignition on
- Tiptronic control unit, internal function test
- Brake not actuated
- No faults stored for DME control unit
- Engine runs without malfunctions, engine speed > 300 rpm

Possible fault causes
- Short circuit to B+/ground/between lines or open circuit
- Electrical fault in circuit
- Output shaft speed inductive sensor faulty
- Tiptronic control unit faulty

Fault effects
- Fault display in multi-function display in instrument cluster
- Check Engine warning light in instrument cluster [ON]
- Limp-home mode 1
- The method used to calculate the output shaft speed changes
- Hard shifts during gear change from [P] to [N] and vice versa when vehicle is stationary
- If ABS function also fails: no check of [R] position and selector lever lock (shiftlock), speedometer display is [0 km/h]
- If drive shaft speed and ABS function also fail: speedometer display is [0 km/h] in all shift positions
- No self-teaching check [Adaptation]
