Turbocharger: Description and Operation

The turbocharger system used on the Fuego Turbo consists of a Garret Type T3 turbocharger equipped with pressure check valve, a pressure gauge mounted on the instrument panel and an air to air heat exchanger cooled by an electric fan motor. An engine safety feature is also incorporated into the system to ground electronic control unit terminal 26 via a safety valve (pressostat) calibrated to 19 psi.

The heat exchanger fan motor is controlled by a safety valve (pressostat) calibrated to 4.4 psi and is actuated by pressure from the aluminum ductwork. Pressure is delayed at times of increased or decreased pressure by two delay valves connected in series with the vacuum reservoir.
