Troubleshooting

Refer to Fig. 1 to determine which transaxle elements are active in each selector position.




CREEP IN NEUTRAL

1. Gear selector lever adjustment.
2. E1-E2 clutches.

CREEP IN DRIVE (EXCESSIVE)

1. Incorrect idle speed setting.
2. Accelerator control cable improperly adjusted or defective.
3. Torque converter.

SLIP ON TAKE-OFF IN DRIVE & REVERSE

1. Incorrect fluid level.
2. Incorrect oil pressure (vacuum capsule improperly adjusted).
3. Valve body.
4. Torque converter.

SLIP ON TAKE-OFF IN DRIVE ONLY

1. E1-E2 clutches.
2. Freewheel.

SLIP DURING SHIFTING

1. Incorrect oil pressure (vacuum capsule improperly adjusted).
2. Valve body.
3. Oil pump screen clogged.
4. E1-E2 clutches.
5. F2 brake.

SURGE ON TAKE-OFF

1. Incorrect idle speed setting.
2. Accelerator control cable improperly adjusted or defective.
3. Incorrect fluid level.

SURGE DURING SHIFTING

1. Incorrect oil pressure (vacuum capsule improperly adjusted).
2. Defective vacuum capsule or hose.
3. Valve body.

INCORRECT SHIFT SPEEDS

1. Accelerator cable improperly adjusted or defective.
2. Load potentiometer improperly adjusted.
3. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
4. Kickdown switch.
5. Computer.
6. Road speed sensor.

NO DRIVE IN ANY SHIFT POSITION

1. Gear selector improperly adjusted.
2. Incorrect fluid level.
3. Valve body.
4. Oil pump.
5. Oil pump screen clogged.
6. Oil pump shaft or turbine shaft.
7. Final drive.
8. Converter drive plate or converter.
9. E1-E2 clutches.

NO DRIVE IN D OR 1ST GEAR HOLD

1. Valve body.
2. E1-E2 clutches.
3. Freewheel.

NO DRIVE IN 3RD OR REVERSE

1. Valve body.
2. E1-E2 clutches.

NO REVERSE OR ENGINE BRAKING IN 1ST GEAR HOLD

1. Multi-function switch.
2. Valve body.
3. F1 brake.

NO 1ST SPEED IN D

1. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
2. Solenoid valves.
3. Freewheel.

NO 2ND SPEED IN D

1. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
2. Valve body.
3. F2 brake.

NO 3RD SPEED IN D

1. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
2. Computer.
3. Solenoid valves.
4. Multi-function switch.
5. Valve body.

NO 1ST OR 2ND GEAR HOLD

1. Gear selector lever improperly adjusted.
2. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
3. Computer.
4. Multi-function switch.
5. Valve body.

REMAINS IN 1ST GEAR WITH SELECTOR IN D

1. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
2. Computer.
3. Solenoid valves.
4. Road speed sensor.
5. Valve body.

REMAINS IN 3RD GEAR WITH SELECTOR IN D

1. Defective fuse.
2. Poor electrical connections or defective harness, connectors or grounds.
3. Computer.
4. Oil pump.
5. Valve body.
