Subject: Emissions Recall # 459, Catalytic Converter

Models: The Following Renault Passenger Cars Equipped With Federal Emission System:

^ 1985 Model Year Alliance & Encore With 1.7L Engine and Manual Transmission

^ 1986 Model Year Alliance & Encore With 1.7L Engine

^ 1987 GTA With 2.0L Engine

The listed model vehicles may be in violation of Federal emissions standards as a result of catalyst deterioration. To correct the condition, an improved catalytic converter must be installed to replace the original. The improved catalyst does not have a heat blanket under the top cover of the can.

Cars identified through our warranty records which have already been repaired by installing a blanketless catalytic converter have been excluded from the recall population.
