DTC 43A24/DTC 43A25 - Electric Detonators 2 & 3, Open Circuit

MALFUNCTION
Diagnostic trouble codes 43A24 and 43A25: Electric detonators 2 and 3, open circuit

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. Unscrew the steering wheel airbag module and unplug the connector at the rear of the airbag. Plug reference resistor 84 71153 into the connector.

NOTE: For cars with an airbag on the passenger's side: Remove the lower cover and unplug the passenger airbag connector H2-80. Plug reference resistor 84 71 153 via cable 86 11 378 into the connector.

2. Unplug the connector from control module 331.
3. Check pins 4 and 5, and also pins 23 and 24, of the wiring connectors for continuity and/or slide- out.

NOTE: Pins 4 and 5 are for left-hand seat-belt tensioner 235 (electric detonator 2). Pins 23 and 24 are for right-hand seat-belt tensioner 236 (electric detonator 3).

4. Plug in the connector, clear the trouble code and wait at least 40 seconds with the ignition ON. Then check whether the trouble code recurs.
If the trouble code does not recur, the fault was in the connector.
If the trouble code recurs - proceed to step 5.
5. Unplug the seat-belt tensioner connector and plug reference resistor 84 71153 into the connector.
6.. Clear the trouble code and wait at least 40 seconds with the ignition ON. Then check whether the trouble code recurs.
If the trouble code does recur - proceed to step 8.
If the trouble code does not recur, the fault is probably in the seat-belt tensioner. Change the Seat Belt Tensioner.
7. Check this by unplugging the reference resistor and plugging in the seat-belt tensioner. Switch ON the ignition and wait at least 40 seconds with the ignition ON.
If the trouble code recurs, the fault is in the Seat Belt Tensioner.
8. Plug reference resistor 84 71 153 back into the seat-belt tensioner connector.
9. Unplug the connector at control module 331 and plug breakout box 86 11 006 into the connector on the wiring.
10.. Measure the resistance across pins 4 and 5 for left-hand seat-belt tensioner 235 (electric detonator 2) and across pins 23 and 24 for the right- hand seat-belt tensioner (electric detonator 3).
If the resistance is higher than 100 ohms, the fault is in the wiring between the seat-belt tensioner connector and the connector at control module 331. Investigate the cause. Rectify the fault or change the wiring as necessary
