Intermittent Wipe Without Wash

The Integrated Central Electronics (ICE) module controls intermittent operation of the windshield and rear-window wipers.

When the windshield wiper stalk switch and the rear-window wiper switch are in the "intermittent operation" position, power is supplied to ICE module pins 39 (windshield) and 62 (rear window). The ICE module grounds both intermittent operation relays via pins 59 (windshield) and 7 (rear window) for about 2 seconds.

The wipers start by making 2 sweeps, following which the ICE
grounds the relay for about 0.5 seconds at 7-second intervals. The wipers accordingly make one sweep cycle (to and fro) every 7 seconds.

ICE programming ensures that the windshield and rear-window wipers get into step after only 1 sweep (8 seconds) and then stay synchronized.

Parked position
On M1995 and later cars the windshield wiper motor incorporates a parking switch which monitors the movements of the wipers and makes sure that they stop in the parked position when switched off.

This feature can be programmed on or off by means of a Intellegant Saab Tester (ISAT) scan tool.
