Clutch: Service and Repair

Change of entire clutch

As a pre-condition the gearbox should have been removed as described in Manual Transmission/Transaxle - Service and Repair - Procedures

Removal, inspection

1. Fit flywheel holders 83 94 868 to lock flywheel.
2. Remove the screws which hold the pressure plate and remove the clutch.
3. Inspect the contact surface for the driven plate on the flywheel. If it is blued or if there are small cracks present, this is of minor importance. If, however, there are deep scratches, the flywheel should be reworked in a latch or replaced.
4. Check the pressure plate in the spring-unit for any scratches and deformity. If there are any unevennesses, it should be changed.
5. Check the de-clutching bearing for noise, wear and similar.

6. Inspect the driven plate for wear and replace it if necessary.
7. Place plate and pressure plate on the flywheel and loosely attach the screws.
8. Centre the plate with centring drift 87 92 327 and tighten the screws alternately. Tightening torque 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)
