Handling Control Modules

All control modules are more or less sensitive to static electricity and could, if they are handled in the wrong way, be damaged so seriously that they would stop functioning. It is therefore important that the rules below are adhered to every time the control module has to be removed or replaced for any reason.

- Do not disconnect or remove the control module unless this is absolutely necessary.

- Never touch the contact pins and never place the control module in such a way that the pins come into contact with foreign bodies.

- Before unpacking a new control module, ground the packaging to the car's bodywork and open the packaging as shortly as possible before fitting the control module.

- Avoid wearing clothes made of synthetic materials.

- When carrying out work involving a control module it is important that you ground yourself from time to time. This is especially important when you have been sitting in the car, when you have changed position or moved round the car and it is especially important in climatic conditions with very dry air (like in the winter in cold-climate countries).

- In addition, always handle in the same way any control modules which you suspect are faulty. This will considerably increase the likelihood of your finding the cause of the fault.
