Liftgate Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Open the liftgate.
2. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Liftgate Window Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove both coat hooks.
4. Pull down the center of the sealing strip.
5. Remove the rear section of the headliner.
6. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement (Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement).




7. Disconnect the rear windshield washer fluid supply line.
8. Disconnect the center high mount stop lamp (CHMSL) electrical connector located behind the header panel.




9. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).
10. Remove the license plate pocket. Refer to Rear Door Outside Handle and License Pocket Replacement ().
11. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to Liftgate Lock Cylinder Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the window latch assembly. Refer to Liftgate Window Latch Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Remove the window wiper assembly. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Arm Replacement (Rear Window Wiper Arm Replacement).
14. Remove the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement (Liftgate Control Module Replacement).
15. Remove the liftgate wire harness. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement (Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement).
16. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement (Liftgate Strut Replacement).
17. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges using a grease pencil or other suitable marking device.




18. Remove the liftgate hinge nuts with the aid of an assistant.
19. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the liftgate to the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

2. Install the liftgate hinge nuts.

Tighten the liftgate hinge nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement (Liftgate Strut Replacement).
4. Install the wire harness to the liftgate. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement (Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement).
5. Install the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement (Liftgate Control Module Replacement).
6. Install the window wiper assembly.
7. Install the window latch assembly. Refer to Liftgate Window Latch Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Liftgate Lock Cylinder Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the license plate pocket. Refer to Rear Door Outside Handle and License Pocket Replacement ().




10. Connect the rear window defogger electrical connectors (2).




11. Connect the rear window washer fluid supply hose.
12. Connect the CHMSL electrical connector behind the header panel.
13. Install both coat hooks.
14. Replace the center of the sealing strip.
15. Install the rear section of the headliner.
16. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement (Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement).
17. Install the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement (Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement).
18. Install the liftgate window. Refer to Liftgate Window Replacement (Service and Repair).
