Subject:
ABS Light/Traction Off Indicator Light On, ABS Code C0045 and/or C0050 Set, (Inspect Connector X408 or Left/Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Harness)
Models:
2008 Saturn VUE
with Front Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive
Condition
Some customers may comment that the ABS light and traction off indicator light are on. DTC codes C0045 and/or C0050 may be set.
Cause 1
Water may be entering the X408 connector.
Correction 1
Inspect the connector for corrosion and or water. If corrosion or water is found, eliminate the connector. Follow the procedure below. IF no corrosion and/or water is found in the connector and code C0045 is set, proceed to Cause 2 and Correction 2.
1. Disconnect the left wheel speed sensor.
2. If the vehicle is equipped with all wheel drive, remove the front mounting nuts and the rear differential support bushing bolts and lower the unit to gain access to the wire harness retainers.
3. Release the wire harness retainers and move the harness to the passenger side. This will give the access needed to work.
4. Remove one circuit at a time from the connectors and splice them together with a duraseal splice sleeve. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire Using Splice Sleeve in SI if necessary. Front wheel drive only has two circuits that dead end - circuit 550 (BLACK) Ground and circuit 2140 (RED) Power. A splice sleeve will also be needed on these two circuits to seal them from moisture.
5. Wrap the harness with electrical tape.
6. Place the harness back into the retainers and connect the left wheel speed sensor harness.
7. If the vehicle is equipped with all wheel drive, raise the differential and install the front mounting nut and the rear differential support bushing bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the front mounting nuts to 122 N.m (90 lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the rear differential bushing bolts to 188 N.m (139 lb ft).
Cause 2
This may be caused by a nick in the wiring insulation in the left or right rear wheel speed sensor wiring.
Correction 2
Inspect the left and right rear wheel speed sensor wiring for a nick in the insulation. If found, remove the damaged area and splice the wires together using a duraseal splice sleeve. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire Using Splice Sleeve in SI if necessary.
