Seat Belt Control Module: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

The passive restraint control module (PRCM), located in the console, controls the power for the passive restraint belt system and the lap and shoulder belt reminder system. The system allows independent operation of both front shoulder belts.

OPERATION

The PRCM controls shoulder belt operation according to conditions detected by the PRCM through inputs received from various switches. The PRCM receives these signals and operates the shoulder belts according to its internal program.
Under normal operation, the shoulder belt will move to the B-pillar when the ignition switch is ON and the door is closed, or the vehicle speed is greater than 13 mph.
The shoulder belt moves to the A-pillar when the door opens and vehicle speed is less than 13 mph.
On the driver's side, the shoulder belt will move to the A-pillar if the ignition is OFF and the key is removed from the ignition.
