Manual Trans ABS Telltale Open, Grounded, or Shorted to B+
Manual Trans - ABS Telltale Open, Grounded, or Shorted to B+:
Circuit Diagram:
ANTILOCK TELLTALE CIRCUIT OPEN, GROUNDED OR SHORTED TO B+
The antilock telltale should turn On for a bulb check when the ignition is turned to RUN. Three seconds after the engine starts, if the ABS control module doesn't detect a fault, the telltale should turn off. The ABS control module turns the antilock telltale Off by providing a ground path for the antilock telltale circuit.
CODE PARAMETERS
Code 12 sets if:
^ The antilock telltale circuit is open, grounded or, short to battery.
^ The ABS controller will NOT turn on the "ABS" telltale if the circuit is grounded.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
NOTE: Since the antilock telltale works through a remote lamp driver in the I/P cluster, grounding the circuit from the cluster to the ABS control module would cause the telltale to turn Off. Opening the circuit will turn the telltale On.
Intermittents or opens suspected to be at the connectors can be detected by using a diagnostic service probe. Voltage can be read on wires without disconnecting any connectors.
When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem use the Scan tool[1] to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem.
Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.
Code 12 will set in a manual transaxle vehicle if the ABS transaxle option bit is set for an automatic transaxle vehicle. Use the Saturn Portable Diagnostic (Scan) (PDT) Tool (ABS-ID table) to check transaxle option.
