Transmission Controls With PCM

HOT LAMP ILLUMINATED
The hot lamp on the instrument panel has the ability to illuminate as a result of an engine or transaxle overheat. When the lamp is illuminated, as a result of a transaxle overheat, this information flag is set to identify the overheat as a transaxle condition. This information flag will not set if DTC 32 - Temperature Circuit Grounded has set first.

INFORMATION FLAG PARAMETERS
Information flag 15 is set when the PCM has detected the following conditions:
^ Transaxle oil temperature at the temperature sensor is above 140°C (284°F).
^ Actuator temperature is above 160°C (320°F), as calculated by PCM from oil temperature and actuator on time.

NOTE: The hot lamp on the instrument panel will go on when this DTC is set. This indicator light is shared by the engine cooling system.

TEST DESCRIPTION

NOTE: This information flag will not set if DTC 32- Temperature Circuit Grounded has set first.

^ Check for DTC 53. If this diagnostic trouble code is present, repair it first, then road test the vehicle to see if the transaxle overheats. If no diagnostic trouble codes are present then check the following items:
^ Overloaded due to trailer towing.
^ Transaxle oil cooler restricted.
^ Transaxle oil cooler lines restricted.
^ Radiator air flow restricted.
^ Low transaxle oil level.
^ Inoperative radiator cooling fan.
^ Any condition that would cause engine to run hot.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ This information flag is not set by a grounded electrical circuit. That would cause DTC 32 transaxle temperature circuit grounded (hot) to set.
^ This information flag may have set due to corrosion build-up or water in connector.
