DTC 85
Diagnostic Chart:
Circuit Schematic:
BRAKE SWITCH STUCK CLOSED
The brake switch is normally closed supplying 12 volts to the PCM at terminal J3E05 when the key is on and brake off.
INFORMATION FLAG PARAMETERS
Information flag 85 is set when the PCM has detected the following conditions twice per ignition cycle.
- Vehicle has cycled 5 times from 0-55 km/h (0-35 mph).
- Voltage at PCM terminal J3E5 (circuit 86) is always 12 volts.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbered steps below refer to steps on trouble chart.
1. When disconnecting the brake switch connector, the PCM/TC should see zero volts at terminal J3E5. Zero volts should be indicated as brake switch On.
2. If the Scan tool indication is Off when the brake switch was disconnected, it indicates a short to voltage on circuit 86 to PCM.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem use the Scan tool[1] to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem.
Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.
