Seat Back Frame - Popping Noise From Front

BULLETIN NO.: 95-T-14

ISSUE DATE: March, 1995

GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Body-02

CORPORATION NO.: 581602

SUBJECT:
Popping Noise Coming From Front Seat Back Frame (Cut Hog Ring Listing Wire in Seat Back Foam to Avoid Contact with Seat Back Frame)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1995 SL, SL1, SW1 up to and including VIN SZ190793

CONDITION:
A popping sound may be heard from the seat back frame while sitting in front driver or passenger seats, while the vehicle is parked or being driven.

CAUSE:
Hog ring listing wire inside seat foam contacts seat back frame sides.

CORRECTION:
Partially remove front seat back cover and cut hog ring listing wire in the seat back foam.

PROCEDURE:

1. Place front seat back in the full forward position and disengage the double J-strip at the bottom of the front seat back cover.

2. Place front seat back in the upright position. Pull the bottom of the front seat back cover up to expose hog rings in foam pad. Cut and remove hog rings.

3. Pull front seat back cover to expose the upper seat foam listing wire. (The upper seat foam listing wire is the paper covered wire at top of front seat back.)

IMPORTANT:
Seat foam listing wire may be partially covered by seat back foam pad.

4. Check the distance between the end of the upper seat foam listing wire to the steel seat back frame at both inboard and outboard sides of the seat back. If the distance is less than 15 mm (0.60 in.), cut the upper seat foam listing wire to allow for a 15 mm (0.60 in.) gap between the end of the upper seat foam listing wire and the seat frame.

5. Pull the front seat back cover halfway down onto the front seat back. Using new hog rings, attach the front seat back cover vertical listing wires to the lower seat foam listing wires. (The lower seat foam listing wires are the paper covered lower seat foam listing wires that hog rings were removed from in Step 2.)

6. Pull the front seat back cover fully into place. Check for and remove any wrinkles. Engage J-strip at the bottom of the seat back.
