Defect Involved

Saturn has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1997 Saturn SC1 and SC2 (two door Coupe) model vehicles. If the driver or front passenger safety belt is pulled out much faster than normal a number of times, the lock-up feature of the retractor may not work properly. In a rapid deceleration or crash, the occupant would then not be properly restrained and may receive additional or more severe injuries.

To correct this condition, Retailers are to replace the driver and front passenger seat belt assemblies.
