Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
NOTE: The front engine crankshaft oil seal is replaced without removing the engine from the vehicle.1. Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap out the oil seal.
2. Using the seal installer service tool, install the new oil seal until its fully seated.
CAUTION: The new oil seal should be installed with the front cover installed. The installation tool uses the crankshafts threads to pull the seal into place. An arbor press and seal installer must be used to install the front seal if the cover is removed. Never tap on the seal or seal installer with a hammer.
3. Apply a coat of oil to the seal lip and inside diameter of the front cover seal bore.
4. If the oil pump and regulator has been removed from the front cover, the valve must be replaced. install the new regulator valve (if removed), using service tool. Install oil pump assembly, and cover plate. Torque is 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
CAUTION: The oil pump cover screws are coated with a sealant to prevent oil leakage. New screws must be installed, if screws are removed. There are two methods of replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal. Special tools are required for both procedures to make sure the seal lip is not damaged. To prevent oil leaks and seal damage, the engine's oil pan must be removed if the rear oil seal carrier requires replacement.
