Fuel Pump Electrical Test

Instrument Panel Junction Block (IPJB):

CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW SMOKING OR THE USE OF OPEN FLAMES IN THE AREA WHERE WORK ON THE FUEL SYSTEM IS TAKING PLACE. ANYTIME THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEING WORKED ON, DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE, EXCEPT FOR THOSE TEST WHERE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS REQUIRED.

FUEL PUMP ELECTRICAL CHECK

If pressure is not registered at the Schrader valve (refer to "Fuel Pump Pressure Test") with ignition in the ON position, proceed with the following:

1. Test the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box; if open, replace.

2. Switch relays in fuse box and test system. The relays are interchangeable.

3. Check for loose ground at tank unit harness in rear compartment.

4. Check for 12 volts in circuit 120 at tank. If 12 volts are not available at pump, check:
a. Electrical connectors and circuit.
b. Relay.

5. If all of the above are satisfactory; replace pump module.
