Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection

EVAP VAPOR CANISTER AND PURGE VALVE

Results of incorrect operation:
^ Poor idle, stalling and poor driveability can be caused by:
1. Damaged EVAP canister.
2. Vacuum hoses split, cracked, and/or not connected to the proper tubes.

^ Evidence of fuel loss or fuel vapor odor can be caused by:
1. Liquid fuel leaking from fuel lines, tank or injector(s).
2. Cracked or damaged EVAP canister.
3. Disconnected, improperly routed, kinked, deteriorated or damaged hoses.
4. Air cleaner or air cleaner gasket improperly seated.

NOTE: Fuel odors can be located using an emissions analyzer. Refer to "Excessive Exhaust Emissions or Odors" in "Diagnostic and Test Procedures, Diagnosis by Symptoms".
