Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Crankshaft Position Sensor

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor produces 58 AC signal pulses from a 58 tooth reluctor wheel on the crankshaft. The reluctor wheel teeth are spaced 6 degrees apart with a 12 degree span with no teeth enabling the ECM to determine TDC Cylinder #1. The CMP sensor signal is then used to determine which of the two cylinders is on a compression stroke. The ECM can properly synchronize spark timing fuel injection and knock control with this information. This sensor is also used for misfire detection.
