Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Transaxle Fluid Checking Procedure

It is not necessary to check fluid level unless fluid has been changed or a leak is suspected.

IMPORTANT: If transaxle is hot, allow sufficient time to cool before checking fluid level.

1. Park vehicle on level ground with engine off.

2. Flip the handle up and then pull out the oil level indicator (dipstick). Wipe the oil level indicator off with a clean rag or paper towel.
3. Push the oil level indicator back in all the way and then remove it.

4. Check both sides of the oil level indicator, and read the lower level. The fluid level must be in the cross-hatched area.
- If the fluid level is in the cross-hatched area on the oil level indicator, then push the oil level indicator back in all the way and flip down the handle to lock it in place.
- If the fluid level is below the "ADD" mark, then add only enough Saturn Transaxle Fluid to bring the fluid level up to the middle of the cross-hatched area on the oil level indicator.
